Physics - Mains (Part V)

I have uploaded my answers in CSE 2007 Physics exam at the following links. These are not ideal answers but approximately what I wrote in the examination. These answers fetched me 208 and 170 marks in Physics 1 and Physics 2 respectively. I am sorry that the file size is quite large (2.5MB for Physics - 1 and 7.5 MB for Physics-2). Please inform me in the comments when these links stop working.

Based on Mayuresh's inputs, I am also uploading files at Mediafire. This is the link to my answers.

That's a lot of help sir. .

Thanks for taking such pain for aspirants like us. .

One suggestion for uploading that you can use www.mediafire.com for easy uploading, it's free and provide good speed for download as well as resume capability that lacks in rapidshare. .

hello supreet sir, first of all congratulations and best wishes for a distinguished career in bureaucracy..
sir,i am appearing in mains 09 wid physics n maths.. after searching desperately 4 a topper frm my optionals, finally found u, Went through your blog.. It is really very helpful.. Thanks a lot sir for the initiative..

The last post : not to take 2 science optionals is what I wanted to get clarified.. Now have some hope to get few doubts cleared about taking physics-maths combination

(misconceptions or is it fact?? -> among iit junta preparing for last few years in delhi about upsc's stand against phy n math : scaling marks to ~70% normalisation & then subtracting nearly 30.. Really worried since june)..

Now, you r the best guy to comment on that (I have finished 80% syllabus from brilliant tutorials sets 1 to 9 mains while referring to bieser / klepner, feeling confident) others r discouraging me from opting for phy-math & the arguments given by them don't sound sensible enough to change my optionals to something as strange as Pali Lit / psychology / any Arts subject).. But, they might be right..

Sir, you can guess my mental status (what i might feeling like right now especially when friends suggest to go for arts subject after I have come this far since 2007, covering most of the syllabus.. Sometimes I do feel depressed / tensed when I hear that the scaling is very severe ~ 65% of marks that you score in these two subjects..)

By the way, sir, I thought that you are no longer active on this blog for the exam fundae session now..
Luckily, my apprehension was wrong [:)]

Reading this physics post and reading your answers was very enriching.. Thanks a lot sir..

Please let us know of insight for how selective one can afford to be (I am leaving statistical, thermo and electronics mains part)..

& yes, CONGRATS again !!
You really gave some hope to people like me (considering that science optionals are not the IN thing or THE optionals now-a-days for reasons unknown to me)..
To be frank, you sound very down-to-earth and we really look upon you as an inpiration.. Keep the good work wherever you go sir..
Thank you & Best regards [:)]

Hi all,

Regarding answers of GS,EE and essay: I don't even know if I have them somewhere at my home or I have given them away. It will be quite a while before I reach my home again and find it out. So please, look for other sources as of now.

Mayuresh:Yes, that's the title of the book.

Vishal: If you've been preparing hard for past two years (you say you've been preparing since 2007), there is no reason to change optionals. Physics and Maths both take time, but two years is sufficiently long time. But please don't rely on Brilliant Tutorials. They are not beneficial for this exam. Try out books (mentioned in my posts) and previous papers instead. And forget about details of normalisation. Nobody knows about it. Even thinking about it is a waste of time.

Regards
Supreet Singh Gulati

Thank you very much sir..

Your words gave strength to keep going..

Physics answers of yours show how conceptual one needs to be.. (basics give 370+)..

Yes, I needed to hear from the best guy and its nice to know that you gave such an honest opinion.. (about : forget the normalisation..) I was getting really tensed on this..

Hello Sir,

I have a small issue eating away my brain.Actually I have completed my masters and presently I am in US still searching for a job.I expressed my intentions to prepare for civils with my sister and brotehr-in-law.But my brother-in-law outrightly said to drop the plan and stay back in US and try for a software job.The reason he gave for asking me to drop Civils Plan was that one has to have a plan of civils right from the first year of their bachelors.Thats the reason he was asking me to drop the idea.He may be right but as far as my knowledge it`s not the case of every one .

Its not just that the market thats driving me back to India.Somehow I didn`t find anything
interesting in US right from the first day I have landed in US.

Please give me your opinion on his words regarding the plan of Civils in first year of Bachelors.Did you had the plans in your first year of bachelors and prepared to civils from then?

Awaiting your reply.Thank You very much Sir.

Supreet Singh Gulati said...

Hi Chintu,

I was in job from July 2002 till September 2004. I started preparing only in October 2004. I had already taken an attempt by then (just to see how the paper is). there's nothing like preparing from first year of bachelors' degree. But you do need 1-1.5 year of preparation before going for first attempt.

Regards
Supreet

Dear Sir, please suggest me some inportants books for physics pre.

Hello sir,
Congratulations.
Just now I have gone through you blog. It is very interesting & giving valuable suggestions to the aspirants. I failed to clear this year prelims exam due to lack of time to cover my optional subject (Mathematics). For 2010, I started the preparation with Physics & Mathematics as optionals for mains.
I think the Physics syllabus has been changed from 2008 onwards. Do the reference books need to change? If you have aware of the latest syllabus, can you please send the new references for Physics soon?
Thanks & Regards,
Chandra

Hi Supreet Singh,

Do u have any class room notes by Vajpayee sir's for physics.... if you have please help me... i asked DIAS institute for physics postal meterial but they told that they dont offer postal meterial....also i cannot go to coaching institutes for physics.... can i rely only on the standard text books mentioned by you?? is there any extra things i need to refer?

also the subjects like maths and physics are scoring and getting the marks is easy if we know the solution... but i could not see the marks around 500 in maths or physics... is it because of the toughness of the exam or scaling or tough correction??

Neelam said...

PLEASE SIR, HELP ME

SECONDLY,I AM TOLD THAT U DONT FETCH FULL MARKS EVEN IF U DO ALL QUESTIONS WRITE IN MATHS.IS IT CORRECT.WHAT THEN MAY BE THE POSSIBLE LOOPHOLES

Thanks for sharing your physics marksheets..

I am a final year EE student of IITD, and I am planning to take on the Civil Services Exam in 2010.

I am also coaching at DIAS, VajiRam.

But the problem is with EE, though i think i know a lot of EE, there is a lack of availability of guidance for the subject.

Sir, please recommend some good place for guidance and please give some critical funda about the subject if you want to share..

Sat shri Akal Sandeep Singhji,
My name is Mayuresh. I have completed my B.Tech. from Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Institiue of Engg. &Technology,Nanded. I have 2 serious quaries. Please reply me.

1)I thought that physics is a scoring optional means if one attempts 100 he is to get 95 score(As have always happened in 10th 12th and during school days). But after reading your posts I am quite scared. Why is that you get only 378 when your correct attempt was 550?(I thought you should have got some 500-525 if in board exam)

2)In the posts on physics many points you mentioned are not in syllabus. eg.Ehrenfest Theorem. How you exactly cover complete sylabus?

thanking you

Also, can I give the exam in my final year of college?
